r/Scams – People pretending to by my daughter

Two different people have called my parents who are in their 80’s and live out of state pretending to be my daughter asking for money. The first time, the scammers knew her name. The second time they just said “it’s your granddaughter”. My parents knew enough by context clues that it was a scam. But it took them a couple of minutes and it scares the hell out of them. My daughter is 20yo and in college.

Any idea how scammers get how my daughter is related to my parents? She has a different last name than them.
