Here are the top stories in Austin today:

1) Austin Police Department held a news conference on Nov. 21, urging community members to come forward with any information on the August murder of Camnik Eugene Campbell. On August 25, around 5 a.m., Campbell was found shot in a parking lot near Barton Springs Pool. Months later, his family continues to press for answers. Anyone with information or video of the incident should call APD Homicide at 512-974-TIPS or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 512-472-847. FOX 7 Austin has more on yesterday’s news conference.

2) The clock is ticking as the Austin School Board waits to vote on proposed tax breaks for NXP Semiconductors. The Statesman reports: “The proposed Chapter 313 agreement — a state-created economic incentive program designed to lure companies to Texas — between NXP and the Austin district needs approval before the end of the year, when the tax break program expires.”
The proposal would give NXP “a break on school district taxes over 10 years for one or both of its proposed expansion sites in Austin … The company would pay the district a fee, and the state would make up the district’s lost tax revenue.” Many school board members have expressed their concerns over the long-term impact this proposal would have on funding for students. Get the full scoop here at The Statesman.

3) Meta, Facebook’s parent company, plans to lay off a total of 222 employees across its four Austin offices. The Statesman reports: “Meta said in early November that it planned to shed 11,000 jobs, or 13% if its workforce, but didn’t provide details about where those cuts would occur. At the time, the company declined to comment on how many Austin-area workers would be affected.” The impacted employees will no longer be with the company as of Jan. 13. Head over to The Statesman for more on this story.

4) Amid a whirlwind of controversy, the 2022 FIFA World Cup has kicked off in Qatar. From Nov. 22 through Nov. 28, there are four standalone matches per day, beginning at 4 a.m., 7 a.m., 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., courtesy of the nine-hour time difference. KUT organized a list of local bars and restaurants that will be playing the matches, and details on how to tune-in from home – check it out.
